ARE MEN REALLY FROM MARS AND WOMEN FROM VENUS

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, so says John Gray in his book of the same title published in 1992. The ideas in this book have somehow become a part of our culture (each sex) as we repeat the phrase and pretty much make it a part of our language when interacting with each other.

Gray asserts that because of the differences in our thinking we are from two distinct planets. Each planet’s specific culture has been inculcated in us and therein lies our differences, in opinion and our thought process and how we each handle relational issues.

Another assertion that he puts forward is that “men offer solutions, but women just want to talk”.

While I would love to deny the statement (being a woman and all) I must admit that a bit of truth rings through quietly. Here’s the thing, without a doubt we are wired differently and that is the beauty and uniqueness of each sex. I cannot imagine my life if I were to think like some of the men I know.

Why would I choose being shallow and to the point when I can infuse a discussion with a bit of color and warmth, which is what most women do.

Mind you, some of us women are a bit extreme and I believe this is when we can become a bit of an “irritant”; yes I am a woman, and I said it. I appreciate a certain amount of balance where my thoughts are accepted just as much as I tolerate, alright, accept the abruptness and forwardness of men.

So let us understand, compromise then embrace and accept each other’s uniqueness. And rather than allow continued conflict, let us get to a point where we accept each other for what we both bring to the table and to the relationship.

A point where we realize that our views will always be different and so compromise must play a part; and if not compromise then let’s make love and move on….

How does that sound?

It is totally unnecessary to hold a position (hang on to a point because I have to be right) to the detriment of something that is far greater (an amazing togetherness) and risk losing each other’s love.

Yes, I concur from a metaphorical standpoint that men are from Mars and we the fairer sex from Venus.

I appreciate and love that we are distinct in nature; so yes! we are indeed different, but soooo right for each other.
