5 UNCOMMON REASONS WHY WE MUST READ MORE

Hey, listen—before you start, this feature isn’t just because our platform encourages you to read (though, admittedly, it does—just a little bias there). That aside, I’m sure you’ve heard this before and likely have your reasons why reading more is essential. We simply want to add to that conversation because the goal is to see women win while living happy, fulfilling lives.”

Our Top 5 goes a little something like this:

1 – EXPAND YOUR CREATIVITY – DREAM BIGGER & BETTER DREAMS.

“Writing a book of fiction isn’t difficult for me, though I believe it’s harder to write than non-fiction. Fiction demands immense creativity to immerse and engross readers in the stories we craft. I remember reading books by Sidney Sheldon and Danielle Steel—two very different authors, right? I often wondered how they managed to write so many books, with countless characters, scenes, and scenarios. The complexity is astounding, but you get the idea.

This brings me back to my main point: reading fuels creativity. It allows us to imagine beyond what’s in front of us and to dream of bigger, better possibilities outside our reality. Reading introduces us to unlikely people, places, and situations that inspire us to work towards experiencing them in our lives if we choose.

Now, imagine a child living in the inner city, reading a book entitled You Are More. I’ll leave you with that thought. Your creativity might just lead you to everything you’ve ever desired.”

2 – RELAX!!!!!

Self-care weekends! Days spent by the pool, at the beach, in your backyard, or even in your bedroom behind closed doors. A mimosa in hand—or maybe just lemonade. Complete silence as you curl up and dive into your favorite book. Sounds dreamy, right? Can you picture it?

Reality check: For most of us, it’s not happening—and that’s the problem.

You need to prioritize doing things that are genuinely good for you. And let me add this: scrolling through social media, reading posts, and viewing pictures does not count as relaxation. In fact, it’s the opposite. True relaxation comes from activities like reading a book, which allows your mind to unwind and recharge.

Make it a habit. Dedicate at least an hour each day to reading. You deserve it—trust me.

3 – SHARING IN THE JOURNEY AND SUCCESS OF OTHERS

Life isn’t always about what you can get, it is also about how you give back. As a writer, I feel this deeply and view it as a “win-win,” especially when I support good writers. Writing is a rewarding career, much like being an investment banker—which I was a few years ago. While these careers may seem like opposites, they share one key commonality: both require research for success.

What I’m trying to say is, if you know a writer who has touched your life—whether through their blog, book, or other work—support them. Writing isn’t a traditional career, but it involves great effort. Crafting a blog, a book, or even a TV show script (like Ozark, which I’m currently binge-watching on Netflix) demands time, hard work, commitment, and passion.

So, support the writers who inspire you. Share in their journey, and together, let’s continue to bring meaningful stories and inspiration to life.

4 – CHANGING THE FUTURE

This one’s a biggie, and I hope you’ll agree. Forgive the generalization, but I believe the next generation is heading in a direction that doesn’t serve them well. We’ve all noticed how consumed we’ve become with social media. It seems to have replaced the sense of community and togetherness that once fostered conversations, stretched our imaginations, and encouraged meaningful communication. What does reading have to do with this? I’m getting there.

Imagine surveying how many hours per month kids aged 12–18 spend reading—by their own choice. What do you think the results would reveal? Here’s my point: reading fosters better communication and builds confidence, both of which are lacking in the next generation because they default to non-verbal communication. Instead, they turn to social media, gaming sites, movie platforms, or Roblox—a topic I’ve discussed endlessly with my 10-year-old daughter. Thankfully, she reads.

Yes, I sound like I’m venting—because I am. This comes from hearing countless concerns about young people today. And so, we must step up. We must be the example and guide them through this crucial stage of life and development. Let’s be proactive. Let’s form more reading clubs and get them involved.

Most importantly, let’s start with ourselves. Let’s be their best book read.

5 – WOMEN OVER 40, YOU MAY WANT TO TUNE INTO THIS ONE.

If you worry about memory loss – Alzheimer’s disease etc it is proven that one of the activities to engage in that will help is reading. “A finding that appeared in the American Academy of Neurology’s medical journal suggests that exercising your brain by taking part in activities such as reading books, magazines or writing across a lifetime, from childhood through old age, is important for brain health in old age”. Read the article here. It is never too late to start being active (no pun intended, we are talking about reading).

So, this list is not exhaustive but are just a few reasons I believe significant enough to merit more reading. What do you think now that you have read? Do you believe it is worth developing the habit of reading more and encouraging others around you especially the younger generation to read more?
