As I read the articles submitted for our latest issue of TheBeyondWoman Magazine I could not help but zero in on the following words included in a feature submitted by Deidre-Ann Burrell titled The Middle Passage—she writes— “…a blessing received prematurely and without adequate preparation can become a burden”.
I felt compelled to add my thoughts to this and further help someone who may read this note.
Receiving a blessing prematurely and without adequate preparation can transform a positive experience into a burdensome one. Imagine being gifted a grand piano when you have never taken a single lesson. While the piano is a valuable and beautiful instrument, not having the necessary skills to play it is not only a waste but can also be a source of frustration rather than joy. Similarly, in life, blessings like sudden wealth, career advancements, or significant responsibilities require a certain level of preparedness to be fully appreciated and managed effectively.
Without preparation, we may struggle to cope with the new challenges that accompany our blessing. For example, sudden wealth can lead to poor financial decisions, causing stress and potential financial ruin. A premature promotion might overwhelm us without the experience and skills needed for the new role, leading us to feel anxious and like a failure.
Moreover, the emotional and psychological impacts of unprepared blessings can be profound. The pressure to meet expectations, coupled with the fear of failure can create a heavy burden. It can also lead to strained relationships, as others might have different expectations or envy the blessing.
This is where the importance of waiting on God’s timing becomes evident. God’s timing is perfect, and His wisdom ensures that blessings are bestowed when we are truly ready to receive and handle them. During periods that require us to wait, we must become mentally, emotionally, and spiritually prepared. This preparation might involve gaining knowledge, developing skills, or strengthening our character and faith. Trusting in God’s timing means believing He knows when we are ready for certain blessings and that He is preparing us in the interim.
Therefore, the key to transforming a blessing into a true source of happiness and growth lies in waiting on God’s timing while we prepare ourselves. Proper preparation allows us to harness the full potential of the blessing, turning it into a lasting benefit rather than a fleeting and burdensome experience. By trusting in God and diligently preparing, we ensure that when the blessing arrives, we are ready to embrace it fully and responsibly.
