I have a heart for moms. I think we are one of the best things since sliced bread. My purpose, at least one that I am assured of, is challenging mothers to switch gears and begin putting action behind their personal dreams.
Why is this such a passion for me?
The answer is two-fold. First, I believe that my mother gave my brother and me every ounce of her love and support; however, she was gifted in many areas that she did not get to tap into before she passed at the age of 55. Second, I am finally blowing the dust off my own dreams and giving myself permission to explore what I am gifted to do. I highly encourage moms to sit down and be selfish for a few minutes. Your children are grown and self-supporting now. What are your giftings that were sacrificially (and with no regret) put to the side while you raised your children?
Here are some tips to explore.
Carve out a set time to just ponder, with no real agenda. Sit quietly and still. Soft music is optional but choose instrumental music, so you will not occupy your thoughts with the words to the songs.
Begin reading a passage(s) in the Bible about how God sees you. This will boost your self-image, self-confidence, and your faith. Have a notebook and pen nearby.
Here are some scriptures to choose from:
* Deuteronomy 28:13
* Romans 8:16-17
* Romans 8:37
* Ephesians 2:10
Write whatever comes to mind. This may be new titles of books, newly composed lyrics to songs, an exhortation, and/or other creative ideas. It may be that you remember something you’ve always wanted to do, such as becoming a seamstress, chef, event
planner, etc.
Thank God for revealing those things to you and ask Him for next steps.
Begin researching at least 2 or 3 ideas on your list.
Here is an example of putting a dream into action:
If you want to write a book, find at least 2 or 3 people that you trust, and blurt it out that you are writing a book. There is nothing like a big PUSH! Research online about self-publishing versus traditional publishing. Buy a notebook, and literally write anything! It does not have to be in logical order. It may not even be for the book you ultimately write, but you are putting some action to it.
If you need to save money to be able to pay publishing costs, then start a savings fund specifically for it. Continue asking questions, studying, researching, writing “something” daily, and funding this venture. Remember, you are doing your part in the natural (your human strength), but God will add His supernatural to it because you did 3 things:
You acknowledged Him before you started.
You researched and studied.
You put some action behind the dream to the extent that you could, and then continued until full fruition.
God’s desire is that we tap into every gift given to us. But even after this first book or dream has manifested, there is more! God will continue to unfold, bless, and finance other dreams because He wants them manifested to bless and be a testimony to others. Mamas, we have it in us to accomplish all the dreams that God deposited into us. So, now that you know what steps to take, and because rearing your children has ended…get off your rear end and start realizing those dreams!
