The Dynamic Jessica Wilson – Founder Of The Initiative Projects

Read Time: 2 minutes:

As I scrolled through Jessica’s Facebook page, I knew I would be ‘brought up to speed with some of the social ills plaguing the Jamaican Society. This is what Jessica does; she calls it out for what it is. Not to disparage anyone but to highlight what she sees as injustices served. And so I came across a picture of a two-year-old baby that recently died because of not getting immediate ICU care. Jessica’s comment was, “these are the things that keep me up at night. I hope to live long enough to make this world a better place”. And that sisters, is what Jessica Wilson represents. A woman determined to change the socio-economic outlook of future Jamaica however she can.

 changing lives

Jessica was raised in rural Jamaica in Crofts Hill Clarendon. She used education as a vehicle for her own personal and professional growth. One of Jessica’s credo is a quote by Barack Obama.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”.

By being the change she wants to see in the world, she has founded The Initiative Projects; a non-profit organization geared towards undertaking growth projects that will empower Jamaican citizens, families, and communities. The Initiative Projects aims to provide project management, support, and tools, through partnerships with community groups and other private or government entities.

She is a lifelong advocate for social transformation. The need for increased investments in sustainable development projects; sustainable planning and policies are paramount across Jamaica, especially beyond the corporate areas. The goal, therefore, is to enhance the mindset, skills, and standard of living among citizens, families, and communities; primarily in the areas of Health & Wellness, Income Generation, Housing, Climate Change, and Education.

Jessica’s first major project will take place later this year in the Croft’s Hill community. This will be a multifaceted undertaking; and will include Health & Wellness programs as well as putting in place a project geared towards increasing education and training for the young people in the community. Look out for more information on the Farmer’s Market initiative to come.

Jessica has a Bachelors in Education from The Mico University, Jamaica and a MSc in Computer Science, University of Westminster, England. She has worked in banking for 7 years and Property Management for 2. She now works as a Business Analyst and Project Manager, for a Senior Healthcare provider in Canada.
