You don’t need to know much about Whitney Sinclair to want to do business with her. Her passion (when she speaks) will pull you in from the onset. We wanted to understand how at 19 she began her journey into an area that most young adults, would not give much consideration. She laughingly shares that it is in her blood. Whitney is the proud owner of Soul Food Ja; a farm that provides ground provisions, spices, fruits – you name it, if it’s called farm produce – she can provide it.
Whitney’s journey into Entrepreneurship began after being relieved from her job as a Pharmacy Technician on April 10th. A move she describes as a blessing in disguise which consequently led to the realization that nine to five was not her forte. Four days later on April 14th, Soul Food Ja was born.
Whitney grew up on a farm in Glengoffe, a rural part of St Catherine. This was where she began a love affair with Agriculture. And so, it was no surprise that she made the business decision to supply farm produce to the wider cross- section of Jamaica. It has been only a month but Whitney’s business model (or part of) allows her to receive orders electronically and deliver to the various homes; fulfilling the many orders she receives daily; a needed service as we continue to experience this global pandemic called Covid19.
Whitney experienced a slight setback from an accident. But determined to have nothing prevent the success of her business, she is back on stream with her supplies, fulfilling the needs of her customers.
Stay tuned for our full interview coming with Whitney. In this interview we will dive deeper as we get a better understanding of her thought process; what the future looks like, choosing business over “fun”, the pitfalls and lessons learned and so much more.
