She’s been told who to be,

Where to go and how to act;

And every day she’s presented with images so foreign to her

Yet, so captivating.

She’s been through too much

To not know what moves her.

Life has taught her to be ashamed of her story,

But her story has been the springboard for all that moves her.

It draws her to desire and to the Light.

Everyone has a plan for her life,

But she refuses to be suppressed by the dreams of others.

She’s been told her head is in the clouds

and that she should fall backwards into their reality.

She is evidence that a seed can thrive from dirt thrown on it.

Still, she refuses to be guided by any illusion

Or a false sense of self.

She remains confident in this one thing:

“God is within her; she will not fail.”

Now she moves to the sound of her own beat,

Sings to her own rhythm

And flows with what has always been for her:

A love that sees beyond any limitation or mistake.

She travels light …

Because life has taught her to take nothing

but an open heart and the gift of life.

And in the moments when everything is low,

She rises.
