Beauty Hack – Sugar as an Exfoliator

Read Time: 2 minutes:

If you are like me, having to deal with skin that needs constant exfoliation to eliminate build up, then you may want to read on.

So my best friend has the most amazing skin and she is in her 40’s. Recently I asked her “what do you use to have such gorgeous skin?”

Her reply “I may have a store bought moisturiser but most of what I use is right here in my kitchen.”

We do not have to break our pockets, better yet we can re-channel that money into better things like a handbag …”HELLER”  in my Madea voice.

I want to share with you a means of having beautiful and radiant looking skin without breaking your pocket. As a matter of fact, did you know that most active ingredients found in these highly priced store bought concoctions that we need to look our absolute best is found in our kitchen? They work just as good, if not better than the store bought potions.

So let’s get to our topic today – Sugar as an exfoliator for Face and Body!

In my research I found out that sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid that helps to promote new skin production (excellent “anti- ager” would you say). It is somewhat abrasive and makes it very good for removing dry skin on the face as well as the rest of your body. It is also a humectant thereby retaining moisture from the air and allowing your skin to absorb this moisture.

To note: because of the abrasiveness use gently on your face.

Preparation for face; increase quantities for body scrub.

1.     Measure a tablespoon of brown or white sugar.

2.   One teaspoon oil – I recommend Virgin coconut oil because of its antimicrobial properties and other potential benefits to the skin.

3.   Also add a half teaspoon lemon juice to the mix for clarifying the skin.

4.  Mix completely then gently rub in an upward/outward or circular motion.

5.     Leave on skin for 5 minutes then rinse with warm water.

6.     Rinse again with your regular facial wash and pat dry

7.     Use a toner, I recommend diluted witch hazel (one part witch hazel to one and half part distilled water); also to save money.

Use preparation twice per week and begin your journey to smooth, radiant & beautiful skin.

NB: Avoid your eye area when exfoliating – follow up post to come on how to take care of your sensitive eye area!
