Reinvent???

Just as established products and brands need updating to stay alive and vibrant, you periodically need to refresh or reinvent yourself. Mireille Guiliano

There are a myriad of reasons why one would want to reinvent themselves. Perhaps you suffered some misfortune, what about conquering an addiction. It could be that you need to make a change that will save your life or the life of a loved one. It could be a necessity after a disappointment – whatever it is know that it is okay and it is normal. Furthermore it is you understanding that we all evolve and sometimes reinventing yourself results in you getting to a higher level.

It starts with realizing that who you are today is nowhere near who you want your future self to be. Think about it this way, you attend an interview and the interviewer asks you the dreaded question – How do you see yourself “personally” 10 years from now. You then realize as you think about it, your current life trajectory in no way reflects where you expect to be. It then hits home… you have to do something

This usually happens at about age 40 I am told but it is becoming evident that younger women are realizing the need for a more meaningful life. Perhaps a feeling brought on simply because of the world we live in today – a world that has become selfish, self-seeking, individualistic among many other ways we can describe it.

Here are five ways to get started if you feel the need to reinvent yourself.

Know yourself – it begins right here. You have to be realistic about expectations and the ability to go where you want to.

Plan – always have your action steps. It is your blueprint that will allow the process to become tangible and attainable.

Be open to failure and make allowances – we do not possess a crystal ball and so things may not work according to plan. Be open to challenges (not failures) and change if you need to but remain clear on where you need to get to. Also what works today may not work tomorrow

Acquire knowledge and skills – at times we feel we can “wing” things, not so. Get the knowledge and skills necessary to take you where you need to be. Align yourself with those who are where you want to be, read, read and read.

Be disciplined – stick to the plan/process until it sticks to you.
